Chapter 3:

Kriss woke up. Drowsily she stretched her arms above her head. They cracked soundly. They seemed to do that constantly the last two days. Every time she moved.
Everything hurt. Her whole body was tense and painful. She stepped out of her bed, with another crack of her knees, and walked to the bathroom. When she looked in the mirror, she noticed that her eyes had become even more yellow then they had been the day before. She sighed, she had to put a spell on her eyes to make them seem like they were green. As they usually would be.  Four weeks had passed like it had only been 4 days. Tonight it would be full moon. And Kriss was scared. Very scared. She did not know what would happen. Would it hurt? What if she escaped? What if she bit someone?...
She also heard her friends whispering about her. Her hearing had gone abnormally strong. She could hear things other people didn’t. First she had thought she had gone mad. But then she figured it was only natural for a werewolf to be able to hear like an actual wolf.
She felt sick. She didn’t want to eat. But Professor Dumbledore had told her it’d be much wiser to eat a lot before the full moon. That way she wouldn’t be hungry when she was in her wolf form. She wondered how he knew that. Surely he wasn’t a monster like she was. But then again, he did know of a lot of mysterious things.
She knew she had to tell her friends about her ‘condition’ at some point. They were already suspicious about her recent behavior. She had been snappish and very curtly towards them. She even had growled to Lily last evening. Kriss wished she knew how they would react. If she would, it’d be a lot easier to tell them.
She figured they’d be scared. They wouldn’t admit it though, they were Gryffindors after all. Most likely they would say it doesn’t matter to them. They’d say she was still their friend. But they’d be scared. And their friendship would fade over time. That’s what she expected. They were to noble to just break their friendship.
The guys weren’t suspicious at all. They were just messing around and pulling pranks as usual. Though Remus looked at her with a certain look. No it wasn’t love. Nor was it suspicion, it seemed like recognition and concern… But she thought she had imagined him looking at her at all.
How would the marauders react? They stayed guys after all. And the type of guys which are known for not bothering if they were being rude. Except for Remus, she had absolutely no clue how he would react. He was hard to figure out anyway.

Kriss took a shower, put some clothes on and brushed her teeth. Once she was done she decided to take Dumbledore’s advice to eat as much as she could. When she emerged out of the dormitory she could hear the sounds of a waking up Lily. Alice, Djem and Nina where still asleep. She went downstairs, her knees creaking painfully with every step.
The dormitory was still dark, she looked on her watch. 6:30 pm. Suddenly she heard the faintest noise of somebody shifting in his chair, she immediately looked in the direction the noise came from. Due to her improved eyesight she could clearly see Remus sitting near the fire.
“Hey Rem, why are you up so early?” she asked.
“Hey Kriss, why are you up so early?” he grinned “I thought you liked to sleep in on a Saturday.”
“I asked first.” She said with a faint smile.
“I just woke up early I guess.” He shrugged.
“Hungry?” Kriss asked.
“Not really, but I’ll come with you to breakfast if you like.”
“Thanks, it’s boring to eat all by myself.”
Remus gave her a soft smile and stood up. “Come on then. Let’s go downstairs.”
Kriss nodded, and her neck gave a huge crack. “Oww, dammit.” She put her hand on her neck and massaged it gently. Remus looked at her weirdly. “What happened? Painful neck?”
“Painful everything really.” She said.
“How come?” Remus asked concerned.
“Just fell of my broom with Quidditch practice. Nothing bad, though.” She said quickly, thanking for the fact that it was dark in the Common Room, so he couldn’t see her looking away.
“Ouch…” Remus said. “You know, madam Pomfrey knows how to handle a painful neck… or knees.” He added with a grin when her knees cracked loudly.
“Heh, thanks Rem… I’ll go to her after breakfast.”
They climbed out of the portrait hole and went downstairs quietly. Trying not to wake up the Fat Lady, who was snoring soundly.
“So, what are you up to today, Mr. Lupin? Any pranks on the daily planner?” Kriss grinned.
No matter how sick she felt, she would never want to miss a prank.
“Nope, sorry. We wanted a day off. It has been quite busy, we already have glued Alice and Djem to their boyfriends arses. And all the other corny pranks with Snape of course. ” Remus said smiling.
Kriss snickered at the memory. They had been furious with them. Alice really had to pee by the time she was freed from Frank’s butt. And Djem… well she still didn’t want to talk about what happened. For an extra laugh, she and Remus had also glued Lily to Sirius. Which of course, James didn’t like too much. He thought Padfoot himself had been responsible for the fact that the girl had been glued to his arse for three hours. And of course he had wondered why he hadn’t had thought of doing that himself.
“The pranks on Snivellus weren’t corny, though.” She said offended. “He called you a fag!”
“Well, Sirius did turn my sweater pink. So I did look like a fag. But it became even worse when James decided to put ribbons in my hair.” He said angrily though he couldn’t suppress a grin.
“Yeah well, you were so stupid that you said OK, to the dare that you would walk dressed like that all day.” She said.
He laughed. “I did win 20 Galleons though.”

“So what will we do then? I mean I don’t feel like sitting in the Common Room all day.” Kriss said. “Oh I know! Let’s play Quidditch!”
Remus groaned.
“Awww, pleassee Rem?” Kriss said giving him the puppy eyes, she still was sore. But she also was determined too do fun things all day, that way she hoped she wouldn’t think too much about tonight.
Remus looked thoughtful.  Kriss responded by giving even bigger puppy eyes.
“Pretty please??” she pouted.
“Oh alright. I’ll play Quidditch with you.” He said rolling his eyes.
“Yay!!”
“But…only if you go swimming with me in the lake.” He said.
Kriss knew he loved swimming, so did she. But it was cold. Ah what the heck, she thought. I want to play Quidditch. And if I have to swim for that, then let it be so. It wasn’t so bad after all.
“Okey… will Sirius and James come too?”
“I guess. They were planning on it anyway. And Nina and Lily are coming too.”
“Has Lily agreed to go swimming with James??” Kriss asked awestruck. “How did they manage that?”
“They didn’t. Lils doesn’t know Sirius and James are coming too.”
“I don’t think she’ll be staying very long then.” Kriss said.
“Me either. But you never know. She has been a lot nicer to James this year.” Remus said.
“So Pete isn’t coming?” she said hopeful.
“Nope, dunno what he’s going to do. Probably gonna stuff himself with cheese in the kitchens.”
“Thank god, I won’t live if I see that body of his again.” She shivered.
Remus laughed.

They entered the Great Hall, food was already standing on the tables. By now it was already seven o’clock.
Kriss still wasn’t feeling hungry. But she loaded her plate anyway. She figured it was smart if she’d took mostly meat. So she took a lot of sausages. When she had finished them, she shoved some bacon on her plate. And some bread with marmalade.
“Hungry?” Remus asked? Who was also loading a enormous amount of meat on his plate.
“Yeh…. I thought you weren’t hungry. You said that you weren’t.”
“I guess the walk made me hungry.” He shifted in his seat.
Once Kriss felt she really couldn’t eat anymore. She and Remus went back upstairs. They went to madame Pomfrey, who gave Kriss the medicine, which seemed to work instantly.
Once they were back in the Common Room, which was filling up by now, they sat down by the fire. Waiting for the others to come downstairs.

~Remus’ POV~

Remus woke up early that Saturday morning. His body was killing him. Luckily he had thought it’d be smart to go to madam Pomfrey the day before.
She had a magnificent potion for these kind of things. This would slightly ease the pain and stop his joints from cracking with every move.
There was nobody awake in his dormitory. Peter was snoring loudly, James hadn’t closed his tapestry and was lying in an very weird position, his legs were sprawled out on his cushion and his body lay in a weird angle.
When he walked past Sirius’ bed he could hear him talk in his sleep. He murmured something among this lines: “Yeh, wait no! I don’t wanna eat Pete’s socks. They smell.”
Grinning about what Sirius was saying in his sleep he walked into the bathroom and started with a hot shower, which eased the pain in his body a bit.
Once he had put some clothes on. He went downstairs and sat down in the still dark Common Room. He didn’t bother to put the light on. He could see just as good when it was dark as he could when it was light.
He didn’t know how long he had been sitting there, but suddenly he heard a soft crack, followed by a whimpering sound. Kriss?
He looked over his shoulder. He saw her holding her shoulder lightly, massaging it when she walked off the stairs.
He wondered what had happened to her, the past few weeks she had not only been much less cheerful, but also very snappish to her friends. He had heard their conversations about Kriss when she hadn’t been with them. Lily, Djem, Nina and Alice had talked about her strange behaviour.
She looked tired, and a bit sick, strange. She had also lost some weight since the start of term.
Now he thought of it, she looked just the way he was feeling.
… Could she be…? No! Of course not you dimwit! He told himself. She has just caught a bit of a flu. Nothing special about that.
“Hey Rem, why are you up so early?” she asked.
“Why are you up so early? I thought you liked to sleep in on a Saturday.”
“I asked first.” She responded with a faint smile tugging on her lips.
He didn’t answer immediately. He stared at her mouth for a moment. When he realized what he was doing, he looked away and quickly said. “I just woke up early I guess.” and shrugged.
She didn’t seem to have noticed.
“Hungry?” she asked.
“Not really, but I’ll come with you to breakfast if you like.” He said.
“Thanks, it is boring to eat all by myself.” She said, this time with a real smile.
He smiled back at her. “Come on then, let’s go downstairs.”
When she nodded her neck gave a loud crack.
“Oww, dammit!” she whimpered. And massaged her neck gently. Remus looked at her weirdly.
She isn’t a werewolf Moony. He kept telling himself. She can’t be. I would have noticed, I would have smelled, wouldn’t I? “What happened? Painful neck?”
“Painful everything, really.” She sighed.
“How come?” he asked.
“Just fell of my broom with Quidditch practice. Nothing bad though.”
“Ouch… You know, madam Pomfrey knows how to handle a painful neck…or knees.” He grinned when her knees also made a cracking noise.
She laughed a little. “Thanks Rem, I’ll go to her after breakfast.”

On their way too the Great Hall, Remus caught himself looking at her a few times.
He always had liked Kriss. And the way she had changed over the summer now didn’t help him with trying to put her out of his head. She had become drop dead gorgeous over the summer. Her hair had become longer, lost a lot of weight and she put make-up on now, just a little. But it suited her well. Even Sirius had mentioned how ‘shaggable’ (his way of saying beautiful) she had become. And Sirius was quite picky.
Stop it Remus. He told himself. ‘I am not good enough for her. Look at me. I’m a monster. A blood-thirsty creature. She’ll be afraid of me.’

~Sirius’ POV~

“Oeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!...” Sirius awoke with a loud yawn, and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. He looked over at James’ bed. Prongs was lying in a weird angle. Sirius grinned and tucked a pillow at James’ head. “Yo! Prongs! Wake up dude!”
James groaned and murmured something.
“Nuwhhh… momm! Wanna slleeep…five more minutes…rrrzzz”
Sirius shook his head. “Nuhu Prongsie. Time for food! Come on! I want food.” His stomach rumbled loudly. “See! My tummy agrees with me!”
James just pulled the pillow Sirius just had tucked, over his head.
“Okay then… Have it your way.” He grinned evilly and nicked one of Peter’s smelling socks. He sneaked towards James’ bed and held the reeking sock under his nose.
“Whutt? AAHG! Damn! P’foot! Take that darn sock away!! I am awake all right?! Now put it away!”
Peter, who had awoken by James’ yelling, said “Hey that looks like my sock, I didn’t know you also liked butterflies Padfoot?”
“It IS your sock Pete.” Sirius rolled his eyes. “I am not such a wimp as you are. Do you really think I, the famous Sirius Orion Black, would have socks with butterflies printed upon them?”
Peter reacted by just staring dumbly at the sock and murmuring something among the lines: Ooohhh right. My sock… not yours. Mine.”
“C’mon James hurry up! We have told Moony we’d be there 12 o’clock! It’s half past eleven. And I want to eeeaaat…” he whined.
“Yehyeh… I’m coming.” James got out of his comfortable bed and changed. Peter was asleep again by the time James was done.

“Hey guys!” Kriss called cheerfully when she saw Sirius and James bouncing down the stairs. ( Literally… Peter had left his shoes on the stairs)
soo... the third chappie :P finally.
Sorry this one sucks a little. Just haven't had enough inspiration to make it funny or very mysterious or something like that ^^' :P
