Chapter 13

Fenrir Greyback walked up the stairs, cautious. He didn’t feel like being encountered with one of those ‘leeches’ as he liked to call them. He didn’t get what the Dark Lord’s plans with those bloodsuckers were. Surely werewolves were good enough? He had tried to convince him with the fact that his own clan wouldn’t appreciate the fact that there were vampires staying in the large mainson as well. A dumb thing to try really, he had definately discovered that. His whole body was still aching.

The once mighty Fenrir Greyback had turned into a slave of the wizards. The time that they all feared him had been long gone. But now, with the help of the Dark Lord, it would all change. He just knew it. Voldemort had offered his clan wealth, freedom and yes, the promise of fresh meat. Human meat.
But they did have to do something in return, join his army, to fight Dumbledore and all the other wizards that had been so foolish to decide that they could lock the werewolves away. That, of course, was not a difficult choice to make. Not at all.

But something had gone wrong, some werewolves hadn’t kept to the Dark Lord’s rules. They had attacked some deatheaters, when their mind had all along vanished in the light of the full moon. Once this had occured, Voldemort summoned the Vampire clan in order to keep the werewolves in line.

‘The only reason this is possible is because they have a constant power. The bloody leeches.’ Thought Greyback. He scowled. Werewolves were only able to fight in their full strenght with a full moon above them. So all they really could do against the vampires was call them names, and be tortured afterwards. With the full moon though, there were vicious fights between the two clans. Victims had fallen among both sides, allthough none had died, due to Lucius Malfoy, a young chap that came over during full moons. Whenever needed, he stopped the fight by simply chucking in a silver knife, and throw salt at the faces of the vampires. From a safe distance.

“That bloody coward. Can’t make his own hands dirty.” Growled the werewolf to himself.

He pushed open a majestic looking door, and entered an evenly majestic room, covered in green drapings and breathtaking paintings. Voldemort sure knew how to decorate a room.
He stood still, waiting for permission to walk up to his master.

“Come in Fenrir.” An icy voice spoke.

Greyback walked up to a thronelike chair, in which the Dark Lord sat, and kneeled in front of it.

There was silence for a while, and Greyback could feel red eyes piercing his skull, reading his mind.
A cold chuckle followed, a chuckle with no hint of actual joy or humor at all. A shiver went through his bones. He wasn’t afraid or anything, he convinced himself. It’s just that freezing aura that whirled out of his master that was so effective.

“I see you still are not pleased with our other companions?”

“My Lord, we are just natural enemies, that’s all.” He said, keeping his voice down.

“Of course, I had hoped you would clear your differences however.”

“We are try- ... erm working on that My Lord.” He chose his words carefully, trying wasn’t enough for the Dark Lord.

“Very well. But I did not call you for this matter. Has Sletcher finally succeeded the formula?” spoke Voldemort with a hissing voice. As if he dared Greyback to say no.

“Yes, the formula is finished. We have already handed it over to one of the girl’s friends. He will slip it into her drink. She should have full ability of her weapons soon.”

“So that young rat became usefull after all? Who would have thought. You may go now.”

~~~
“Oi Kriss!!” Sirius called after her.
Kriss stopped walking and turned around. “What is it Padfoot?”
Sirius stopped and leaned his arm on her shoulder, panting from running all the way to the greenhouses from the castle.
Once he had caught his breath, he spoke up. “I was wondering, you surely had time enough to think now, right?” he winked at her.
Kriss blinked for a second. ‘What in the world is he talking about?’
Then she remembered. He wanted to go to Hogsmeade with her.
“Oh... oh, yeh right.” She hesitated. She didn’t want to hurt her friend. But she didn’t want to go out with him either. She bit her lip.
“Well?” he asked lifting one eyebrow.
Kriss sighed. “Sirius... I’m sorry, but I don’t think of you as more then a friend, well I do, but brother wise, you know? I can’t. Unless we are going as friends. Or as siblings ” she added, trying to make a little joke, to make it less harsh. Which probably would work out differently...
Sirius blinked. Totally blown over by this decision. He had never been rejected before.
“Oh, well erm. That makes one...”
“Huh?” Kriss questioned. She threw him a confused look.
“Congratulations, you are the first to reject a date with me.” he pointed his thumb at his chest.
“I must say I didn’t see this coming.” He smirked. “ I had already prepared for another wicked snog.”
Kriss snorted. “You really are a jerk you know that?”
Sirius swung his arm around her shoulders. “I know. C’mon let’s go eat sis. I’m starving.”
Kriss snickered at his new name for her. “So you are going to call me sis from now on?”
“Yup.Go with me as my sis then? Of course my brothers will be with us then, cuz we can’t leave the rest of the family home.” He said, referring to James, Remus and Peter.
“Heh, of course. If I am permitted to take my sister.”
“And who would that be?”
“Lily of course.” She grinned.
Sirius snickered. “ I think we’ll be risking insest, James is so frustrated that he can’t get her he might rape her.” He joked.
Kriss laughed. “It can’t be helped. Though she has been a lot nicer lately. And James seems more... well gentleman.” She snorted at the image of James in a tux with a classy hat.
“Well, it’s not all him. He had some help.”
“Really? Did Remus finally get through that thick head of his?” She questioned.
“Nope. You’ll meet her soon enough. I’m surprised you haven’t yet actually. She’s been hanging around with us this whole year. You know? Short, spikey black-purplish hair, different eye colours, pretty girl? No?”
Kriss’ mouth fell open. “A girl? But I never saw her?? What the?”
Sirius patted her head. “For a werewolf you are quite oblivious.” He snickered.
“I’ll ask if she’ll come too okay? I bet you’ll like her.”
“Yeh sounds cool.”
They entered the Great Hall, where most of the students were already seated. Waiting for dinner to start.
James waved at them enthousiastically and pointed over his shoulder, where a seemingly very confused Lily was sitting. Indeed. Next to James.
Sirius snickered. “He finally pulled it off. Lucky bastard.”
Kriss shook her head and sat down next to Lily, Remus across of her. Who was eyeing Sirius with a weird expression on his face. Anger almost.
“Hi Lils.” She greeted her friend.
No response. Lily was staring out ahead of her, throwing glances at a laughing and chatting James every now and then.
Kriss snapped her fingers in front of Lily’s nose. Which shook her out of her trance right away.
“Wha?” she blinked a few times and then looked at Kriss.
“Sorry, what did you say?”
Kriss snickered. “I said hi. You dolt. Are you really this happy to see me?”
“Oh I’m sorry Kriss. I must have spaced out.” She threw a confused look at James once again.
Kriss lifted an eyebrow. “You can say that again. How did this happen?” she made a hand gesture at James sitting next to Lily.
“I... don’t know. He came up to me, and I thought he was going to ask me out again. But then he said that there was no hope for him anyways, and asked if he at least could have the honour of sitting next to me... Not even once referring to how great he was.” She rolled her eyes. “ And I said of course... What is wrong with me? He might get his hopes up.”
Kriss tapped her chin “So he deflated his arrogance a bit?? Must be the work of that girl...”  she pondered.
“Girl!? What girl?” Lily asked, suddenly destressed. Glancing at James once again.
Kriss grinned. “ Maybe he should be getting his hopes up, cuz I see a glorious future.”
Lily flushed furiously. “It’s not like that! I’m just surprised!” she said in a voice which seemed not to try to convince just Kriss but also herself.
“Whatever you say Lils.” She said, still smiling knowingly. She gulped down her pumpkin juice, her eyes watering. It had a nasty taste to it.
“ Argh!” she spluttered, grabbing her throat. She had already swallowed it. Brilliant. If it was over date, she would be sick all night.
“What’s wrong?” Lily asked, concerned.
Kriss pulled a face. “Nothing, I think it was over date... gross.”
Remus leaned forward, apparently having eavesdropped their conversation.
“That’s strange, mine was fine. And the house elves always dubble check before they serve anything.”
“Yeh, we should know.” James added in. “Remember the dancing food prank? It was well hard to arrange it so that we had a gap of time to enchant the food before it went to the tables. We had to set off eightteen dungbombs and freeze five hous elves.”
He cringed at the vicious stare he got from Lily.
“No worries Lily, we unfroze them afterwards. Apologised and all.” He smiled convincingly
Sirius snickered. “He even gave them blankies, didn’t ya James? Acted all soft.” He teased.
“They’re not all as bad as Kreacher you know.” James said curtly.
“Whatever, the suckup buggering little demons.” Said Sirius. Crunching up his nose in a scowl.
Kriss turned towards James, “I’ve written a few lyrics and thought of the basic beats. When are we rehearsing again?”
“Ah that’s cool. We’ll be rehearsing after dinner. In the Room of Requirements of course.”
“Awesome.” Kriss was really in to the band now, they had rehearsed a few times, and she had discovered that she COULD sing. She never had expected it to be so much fun.
“Oh and you guys don’t mind taking dear Kriss and Lily to Hogsmeade this weekend do you?” Sirius asked Remus, James and Peter. “We’ll be going on a family trip.”
“Family trip?” Remus raised an eyebrow.
“Yeh, to celebrate that Kriss and I are siblings, and nothing more.” he winked at Kriss.
Kriss grinned. “You’ll come right Rem? I’ll be stuck with those morons if you don’t.”
Remus grinned widely, looking very cheerful all of a sudden.
“Of course, can’t leave ya all alone now can I?”
“I’ll ask Roxi to join us too.” Said Sirius. “Kriss hasn’t even met her yet! Seriously.”
James put his hand on his chest dramatically. “Oh no, the disgrace! Haven’t we introduced you?”
“Is it that girl with the dark purple hair?” asked Lily. “She’s in Slytherin right?”
“Now don’t you judge people on their houses Lillykins!” tutted James, overdramatic. “I would have expected differently of you!” he shook his head.
“Wha? But I didn’t. You!” Lily spluttered.
Kriss laughed, “My god James you are SUCH a hypocrite. You judge every Slytherin you know. I’m actually shocked that you befriended one.”
James glared at her. “That’s right, spoil the little joy of my day. And Roxi happens to be different then those other slu... erm people in that house. You’ll notice when you meet her.”
~~~

After band rehearsal, Kriss returned to her dormitory. She was tired and felt sick.
‘Must be the pumpkin juice after all.’ She put on her pj’s and crept in her bed. She fell asleep quickly. But awoke in the middle of the night. Her whole arms were aching and trembling. She decided to go down and sit by the fire for a bit. Hopefully the pain would ease.

But what happened was quite the opposite. Instead of vanishing, the pain increased. Her breathing became rushed and sweat was rolling off her forehead. It was almost as if her arms and hands were transforming into their werewolf state. However if she looked at them, they remained the same normal hands.

But then all of a sudden with a pang of pain and spurts of blood, the skin between her knuckles ripped and out of each hand shot two knifelike claws.

~ Remus’ POV ~

Remus was overly cheerful the rest of the evening, now that he knew that Kriss didn’t like Sirius as a potentional boyfriend he had his hopes up again. It took him some time to fall asleep. But he finally dosed off.

“AAAHHHHHH!”

A bloodcurling scream of agony went through the castle. Remus leapt out of his bed with shock.
‘That was Kriss’ voice!’

He bounded out of his room, and hurried of the stairs. Once in the common room his eyes searched for Kriss, her scream had sounded from here.
Then his gaze found her, sitting on the ground, in a puddle of blood.

“Holy shit... what happened Kriss!?”

Kriss looked up, tears streaming down her face. She lifted her arms.
Remus was shocked by what he saw, two somewhat clawlike blades were growing out of each hand. His eyes widened.

Kriss sniffed. “Don’t you dare tell me I’m not a monster now.”
